As Utah Wedding Photographers, we’re always on the lookout for breathtaking locations that bring a couple’s love story to life. One of our favorite spots? The iconic Saltair near the Great Salt Lake. Recently, we had the privilege of photographing Andrew and Brooke’s bride and groom session there, and let me tell you, it was a shoot to remember! From fast-paced moments to serene sunsets, their Summer Saltair session had it all.
A Scenic Adventure Begins
Our journey started by the docks just south of Saltair. The sunlight was strong, creating a vibrant, golden glow, but it wasn’t quite the look we were going for just yet. Andrew and Brooke were absolute troopers, moving with us as we scouted a better spot. Heading just north of Saltair, we stumbled upon a patch of lush green grass. It was a stunning contrast to the rugged, salty landscape Saltair is known for.
Getting to that grassy area was no easy feat. Each step sunk us a little deeper into the mushy ground, and before we knew it, our shoes were covered in mud. But Andrew and Brooke’s spirits stayed high. They laughed through the mess, which made for some genuinely candid and joyful shots. These moments were a testament to their fun-loving personalities and their ability to embrace adventure — a hallmark of any great couple.
The Great Saltair Sunset Chase
Brooke had her heart set on a specific vision for the session: capturing the remnants of an old train bridge at sunset. The bridge posts, jutting out of the lake near the water’s edge, hold a haunting beauty and offer a unique backdrop. However, finding them was a bit of a challenge. Brooke wasn’t exactly sure where they were, and with time ticking away before sunset, we knew we’d have to hustle.
At first, we walked. The landscape can be deceiving — distances seem shorter than they actually are. After about 20 minutes of walking, I realized we wouldn’t make it in time unless we picked up the pace. Without hesitation, we broke into a run. Brooke’s mom, a true hero, stayed behind to watch over our gear while we sprinted toward our destination.
After what felt like an eternity of running, we finally reached the posts just as the sun kissed the horizon. The light was nothing short of magical — warm, soft, and golden. Andrew and Brooke, slightly out of breath but still full of energy, posed effortlessly. The reflection of the sun on the water, combined with the ethereal quality of the old posts, created a scene that was both romantic and timeless. It was the perfect culmination of our Summer Saltair Bride and Groom Session.
Why Saltair is a Favorite for Utah Wedding Photographers
The Great Salt Lake and the surrounding Saltair area are treasures for Utah Wedding Photographers. The unique mix of natural and man-made elements makes it a versatile location. From the sprawling salt flats and sparkling lake waters to the remnants of historic structures, there’s something for every couple’s vision. And while the terrain can be unpredictable — as we discovered with the grassy mush and deceptive distances — the stunning results are well worth the effort.
For Andrew and Brooke’s session, Saltair provided a backdrop that felt otherworldly. The couple’s love and connection shone through in every frame, and the landscape only amplified their chemistry. Their adventurous spirit made the experience even more memorable, reminding us why we love what we do as wedding photographers.
A Few of Our Favorite Moments
Every session leaves us with standout moments, and Andrew and Brooke’s was no exception. Here are a few highlights:
- The Green Grass Shots: Despite the muddy challenges, the vibrant green grass provided a stunning contrast to Brooke’s flowing gown and Andrew’s sharp suit. Their playful interactions in this spot resulted in some of the session’s most joyful images.
- The Golden Hour Chase: Running against the clock to catch the sunset was an adrenaline-filled adventure. The determination and laughter we shared as a team added a fun energy to the session.
- Sunset by the Water: The culmination of our efforts was undoubtedly the most rewarding.
Capturing Andrew and Brooke against the backdrop of the setting sun, with the train bridge remnants adding a touch of history and intrigue, felt like a cinematic moment frozen in time.
Plan Your Perfect Saltair Session
If you’re planning your own wedding or bride and groom session, Saltair is a location worth considering. Its diverse landscapes and stunning sunsets make it a favorite for Utah Wedding Photographers. Keep in mind, however, that the terrain can be tricky to navigate, so wear comfortable shoes and be ready for an adventure. And if you’re envisioning a specific spot, it’s a good idea to scout the area beforehand or work with photographers who know the location well.
Andrew and Brooke’s Summer Saltair Bride and Groom Session was a whirlwind of excitement, beauty, and love. It’s sessions like these that remind us why we’re so passionate about capturing love stories.
