About  James
James-Erick-Home-Picture.jpg

I am the owner and lead film maker & photographer of James Erick Photography Utah.  Photography and film making is my full time job, and I love it!  I have been called the "Indiana Jones" of wedding photography because I am always exploring and scouting new locations to do photoshoots in many of the most remote places in Utah.  Photography is an adventure, and I love a great adventure! My Utahphotoshootspots.com website is a list with GPS coordinates and pictures of many of those locations.

I started my photography career in the nature photography business, traveling to all the national parks and many other places across the US.  I was offered a job with National Geographic, but I was in school at the time and wanted to finish my degree, so I declined and moved into shooting models and actors.  After shooting a friend’s wedding, I decided to start my own wedding photography business.  This allowed me to combine my skills at photographing people and nature at the same time.

People often ask me what it takes to create a great picture.  I tell them it takes years of experience, perfect timing, great lighting, a willingness to do crazy things like lay down in the snow on your back, climb a tree, hang off the edge of a cliff, or stand waist deep in a freezing river.  It also takes knowing your camera like the back of your hand, having a great relationship with your clients and sometimes just some good common sense.

Utah is one of the most scenic states in the US and I am never at a loss for great locations to do bridals or engagements, no matter what time of year it is.

I love my job, and can’t imagine doing anything else.  Thank you for considering me to photograph one of the most important days of your life.  I know how important that is, and it means the world to me.

I can be found outdoors in a Jeep enjoying all the scenic places that Utah has to offer.  I love finding secluded spots and surrounding myself in the tranquility of the Mountains.  I prefer being outside and I'm an absolute sucker for a good sunset.

I  spent the early part of my career as a small business owner of an outdoor products company. Of all the hats I got to wear.  I found that I enjoyed taking pictures and making videos for the company's marketing efforts the most. After a decade of operating the business it was time to move on and I decided to pursue photography full-time.

After focusing my  new career on  outdoor product photography. I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding. I enjoyed being part of that celebration. It was rejuvenating  being around so many happy people.  To my surprise  I found a lot of  satisfaction in documenting that event and slowly began to take on more engagements and weddings.

I like to think that one day 20, 30, maybe even 50 years in the future,  2 people still very much in love are going to sit down together and start viewing the  pictures of their wedding.  Smiles will emerge  as those images evoke echoes of the  Love , excitement and happiness from their  special day.  Remember after the cake is cut and the bouquet  thrown, you’ll be left with each other and photos. Thank you for letting me have a hand  in creating those Images. Truly,  I enjoy capturing beautiful timeless images that allow couples to share their story for generations.
